Native Americans and Alaskan Natives have had a profound influence on and contribution to the United States of America. It is crucial to recognize the rich history, traditions, and numerous accomplishments made by this group of Native Americans. It is also a chance to raise awareness of the problems that Native Americans face today and in the past.

Despite making up a small segment of the population in the United States, Native Americans and Alaskan Natives are disproportionately impacted by socioeconomic issues that lead to substance abuse and addiction.

By offering a loving recovery experience built in tradition and evidence-based treatment, Sunrise Native Recovery is committed to enhancing the lives of our Native American community.

About more than 6 million Native Americans, or nearly 2% of the population of the United States, are estimated by the 2015 Census. When compared to the overall population, Native Americans are more likely to live in substandard conditions. Native Americans make up more than 30% of the population and have a life expectancy that is around six years lower than the general population.

When compared to other groups, Native Americans have a much higher likelihood of encountering racial prejudice. At least 70% of crimes against Native Americans and Alaskan Natives are committed by non-Native Americans, according to research by the Department of Justice. This rate of racial violence is notably higher than what other groups encounter.

The importance of focusing on substance use awareness and the treatment choices available to native populations cannot be overstated as we respect the history and traditions of Native Americans.

Recovery from addiction for Native Americans

The greatest course of action if you are battling with substance abuse is to get help for your addiction. There are many different treatment alternatives, and some facilities, like Gateway Foundation, have programs that provide addiction therapy for Native Americans.
