Keeping From Being Embarrassed Due to Bad Breath

Having terrible breath is universally acknowledged to be highly embarrassing. It is much more embarrassing to have a condition that causes you to always have terrible breath.

However, just because you have halitosis does not mean you must give up all of your social activities.

Here are some ways that you can treat your halitosis while you are on the go in order to prevent feeling embarrassed in social settings. A dentist in northwest Newton, MA can help you find any underlying causes.

    • Mini versions of oral hygiene items should be carried.

First and foremost, the most effective method for treating halitosis is to perform regular in-depth cleanings of the mouth, which should include a comprehensive program of flossing, brushing, and using mouthwash. If the stench of your breath gets noticeably worse as the day goes on, you might want always to consider carrying a travel-sized dental cleaning kit with you. Put together a travel kit that includes floss picks in a tiny bag and a toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash in travel sizes. Make it a habit to brush your teeth every few hours or more frequently if you have eaten within the past few hours.

    • Chew some gum with a peppermint flavor.

Chewing gum is not the most effective or even the first solution to the problem of foul breath, but it is a speedy one. Chewing a piece of mint gum can momentarily make your breath smell fresher, which is beneficial for brief interactions with other people. In addition to having a flavor that is reminiscent of peppermint, gum can help eliminate bad breath by stimulating saliva production. Saliva is a natural cleanser that removes accumulated bacteria and odors on the teeth and tongue.

    • While you are out, eat foods that are neutral and mild.

Coffee, garlic, and onions are just a few of the “stinky” foods and drinks that are likely to make your halitosis symptoms worse. When you go out to lunch or dine at your place of employment, avoid consuming foods and beverages that are known to cause bad breath by avoiding these offenders. If this occurs, you should immediately use one of the above methods to rinse your mouth and restore its freshness.

    • Get plenty of water in your system.

Bring a glass of water with you when you go out to perform errands or go to work. Drinking water makes your mouth more moist, like chewing gum, because it raises the amount of saliva in your mouth. Additionally, it helps remove any food that may be trapped in your teeth. All of these things are essential to keeping your breath fresh.
