What Happens During the LASIK Surgery?

Are you considering LASIK surgery but feeling a bit nervous about what to expect? It is understandable to feel apprehensive about undergoing LASIK surgery. After all, it involves a surgical procedure on your eyes which can be an intimidating thought. However, the actual process of LASIK surgery in Discover Vision is quite straightforward and relatively painless.

They will then use a device called a microkeratome or femtosecond laser to create a thin flap in the cornea. This flap is folded back to reveal the underlying corneal tissue where the laser is used to reshape the cornea. The reshaping of the cornea allows for better focus of light onto the retina, ultimately leading to clearer vision.

Once the laser treatment is complete, the flap is carefully laid back into place and allowed to heal naturally. The entire procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes per eye and you should expect some blurriness immediately afterwards but most people are able to see more clearly within just a few hours after the surgery.

What are the risks or complications of LASIK?

LASIK eye surgery has been a popular choice for those seeking to improve their vision without the need for glasses or contacts. However, it’s crucial to understand that like any medical procedure, there are potential risks and complications associated with LASIK. Some of these include dry eyes, which can persist long after the surgery is performed. In some cases, patients may experience halos or glares around lights at night, making it difficult to see clearly in low light conditions.

Another risk of LASIK is overcorrection or under correction of the eyesight. While most people who undergo this procedure achieve 20/20 vision, some may end up with worse vision than before.

Additionally, there is a small chance of infection, inflammation, or scarring of the cornea, which can lead to further vision problems if not properly treated. It’s important to have a thorough discussion with your doctor about all the potential risks and complications of LASIK before deciding whether it’s the right option for you.

    How long does LASIK take?

The good news is that LASIK is a quick and efficient procedure, typically taking only about 15 minutes per eye. But there are several factors that can affect the length of your individual procedure.

But it’s important to understand that LASIK is a highly personalized procedure. Your surgeon will take into account factors such as your individual eye shape, prescription, and overall health when determining the best approach for you.
